There are lots of brilliant ideas for the treatment of hair loss at work all over the world, especially in the United States today. Most of them have no scientific backing whatsoever, and several actually lack medical relevance. A good number of them are still in the research phase, though, and every once in a while we get reports of successful researches that have been carried out and the brilliant encouraging results that are obtained therein.
Only recently, research institutes in the Universities of Bonn and Pennsylvania released encouraging statements of breakthroughs that they have made in stem cell research and in other spheres that will take hair replacement to a whole new level. Whilst that is very encouraging there is still a considerable waiting period while those claims are perfected and realized.
In the meantime, there are a lot of hair replacement procedures which are already in practice today, and that actually record some measure of success. When research results eventually become reality, you will have access to it; until then, you have these hair replacement techniques and remedies that will save you much embarrassment in the meantime. Such hair loss treatment procedures as surgeries particularly come to mind because save for a few cases in which the recipient site of a patient’s scalp refused to accept the follicle unit graft from donor site, most of them are outstandingly successful. You may want to pay extra attention
Scalp reduction and balloon inflation are two hair replacement techniques rolled into one. The fact is that although there are individual surgical procedures, they actually have to be employed together to buttress their effectiveness for treating hair loss. Scalp reduction is the surgical procedure in which the deadened skin on the bald spots of the patient are removed and donor follicle unit strips from the healthy site are stretched over it. When this is done, balloon inflation is employed by inserting a saline balloon underneath the part of the scalp that was only recently attached. This further stretches the healthy scalp to provide better skin coverage for the patch and breathing space for the skin to regenerate and grow fresh cells.
It is easy to confuse hair replacement by scalp reduction and balloon inflation with hair transplantation because the procedures are almost identical. However, whereas the former procedure yields quicker results, this latter surgery, by the benefit of ever improving technology and surgical processes, is more thorough and grants better results for the patient.
Strips of skin of about 1 – 1.5 x 15 – 30 cm size are excised from the donor site and applied to the recipient portion of your scalp using binocular stereomicroscopes after they have been dissected into individual follicular unit grafts, and excess fibrous and fatty tissues removed. It is a slow and painstaking process that could take a few weeks to complete and almost nine months for the hairs to look natural. However when that is done, you will be glad you settled for it.
Tissue expansion is a similar process in which a surgeon makes an incision in your scalp and inserts a balloon like device known as a tissue expander beneath the scalp beside a bald patch of skin. It takes quite a number of weeks of observation while the expander inflates, but when it is done, it would have caused your scalp skin to expand and promote the growth of fresh skin cells. Done repeatedly, you can have natural looking hair back on your head in less than a year.
