Alopecia Hair Replacement – Treatment Options

Alopecia can be referred to as the hair loss that causes a smooth patchy spot on the head or skin of the patient. Hence, someone with partial or complete baldness is said to be suffering from Alopecia. This condition is of three types namely Alopecia Areata, Alopecia Totalis and Alopecia Universalis.

Alopecia Areata is a hair loss problem, which causes some bald spots on the scalp. The hair can grow back in some cases. Alopecia Totalis causes the entire scalp to have a complete hair loss. Alopecia universalis is a situation where the entire body of the patient faces hair loss. This is an extreme nature and they may not be growth of hair again.

There has been different treatment options being provided to treat hair loss of any kind and these options can be categorized into medications and non-surgical hair replacements. In applying medications, different kinds of topical and oral drugs are used. Some of the drugs used here are:

- Anthralin cream – This cream can be coated in areas such as the mustache, eyebrows and the scalp. After leaving the coatings for about one hour, the cream can be washed off. This is suitable for treating male alopecia.

- Minoxidil and cortizene injections are other medications that are effective in treating male hair loss. Also, topical immunotherapy is equally effective as a treatment option to cure Alopecia. Other treatment options include the use of dinitrochilorobenzene as a topical solution on the scalp of the individual having Alopecia.

Non-surgical hair replacement solutions for Alopecia includes the use of toupees, wigs or hairpieces to hide the scalp, eye brows, mustache and other part of the body where Alopecia have taken over. Other treatment options in this category include: sensigraft hair replacement, low level laser therapy and reallusions.

It must be noted that the above treatment options for hair replacement are not guarantee that the hair loss Alopecia will be stopped completely. However, your doctor will be in the best position to recommend the right cure for you.
